I am not sure what happened exactly, but one of the links I had to Blogmad sent visitors directly to a domain name registration/renewal page. I get the same page when I follow my bookmark for Blogmad. I assume either Blogmad is dead or did not renew the registration of their domain. I have not had time to look into this too deeply but I believe I have fixed the problem by removing the Blogmad links in my side bar.
If any readers do have some idea of what happened to Blogmad please leave a comment.
I found this article that explains it and gives a fix for affected sites. - http://www.boldinteractive.com/2007/09/24/adbaazcom-redirects-sites-using-tracking-code-supplied-by-websourcedtrafficcom/
ReplyDeleteSo far all I've found on it is that Blogmad.net (and SOME of those that linked to it with Blogmad supplied code) - have not found any other web sites complaining about ADBAZZ.com - One buddy wrote and said his code had been modified/resized and his site was not affected. - Go figure -
Is Blogmad closed for business? I have not been there in a while. Now I get redirects after 24 hours of the initial 'attack'...
I had problems because I forgot I had Blogmad code in my blog twice. Cleared out one and had to really dig for the other...
Thanks, I did find the article you mention after posting this last night.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Blogmad is closed for business. I last visited Blogmad over the weekend and everything seemed in order. But I continue to get redirects as well when I attempt to visit Blogmad.
I figured out that taking out the Blogmad code would fix the problem, and then found the help pages suggesting that was what needed to be done.
Blogmad is open again. Who knows what happened. Actually that is where I am viewing your blog from today
ReplyDeletewhat is blogmad? is this something i as a fellow blogger should know about? larry, i'm sorry to hear that trip is leaving! i'll be praying for the transition.
ReplyDeleteCarloyn,
ReplyDeleteBlogmad is one of several web sights one can join in order to help generate traffic for your blog. This is done by having members surf blogs that are also members of the sight through the sight. One is awarded points for surfing blogs and those points translate into having the sight direct other members of the sight to your blog. It is one way to hopefully increase ones readership.
I am a member of two such sights the other one is Blogexplosion. When I surf member blogs on either of these two sights my traffic definitely increases but the question is always whether one actually gets increase readers, is somewhat debatable. I don't know that I have gotten many of my regular readers from my participation on either of these sights, though I have had enough people comment on my blog after finding my blog because of these sights to keep using them. And I have found some interesting blogs through these sights.
Though many bloggers will argue that a better way to increase actual readership is to do as you have done and comment on blogs you read.
As to your second question it really depends on if you are concerned about increasing your traffic and readership.
Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteYour prayers are appreciated.
I've got a poll on my blog to see how people came to it -- very few came to blog explosion, but I've found a few interesting blogs through Blog Explosion, so I still visit it sometimes, even though a lot of it is drek. I find MyBlogLog surfing get's more blogs that I find interesting, though I avoid ones with tags like SEO, marketing and entrepreneur!
